From left to right: Hanshi M.A. Sharifi, Sensei Michael Tabassi, and Master Hidetaka Nishiyama.
Sensei Tabassi first started training karate in Iran with Hanshi Sharifi (who is my sensei). Both my sensei and Sensei Tabassi earned their 7th dans from Master Nishiyama (may he rest in peace).

This picture was taken at the dojo on the day of a suprise visit from Hanshi Cruz, along with Kyoshi Llewellyn and a handful of his top students. Hanshi Cruz presented Sensei with the honorary rank of eighth dan, and the title of “Hanshi”, from the ISKA. Both Hanshi Cruz and Hanshi Sharifi were longtime students of the late Master Hidetaka Nishiyama.
Hanshi Cruz is sixth dan under Master Nishiyama. Hanshi Sharifi received his fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh dans from Master Nishiyama as well.
